Our Team

Hal C. Buffett

C.P.A, C.A., partner

Hal is the senior partner with Shannon & Buffett. As the senior partner he is responsible for ensuring overall excellent service to our clients, and administration and management of the firm. 

The Shannon and Buffett partnership was originally formed when Robert Shannon (retired) & Hal Buffett came together to provide assurance, accounting and tax services to the greater Fredericton area. 

Hal graduated from UNB in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Math. After university he enrolled in the CA program and received his CA designation in 1983.

Hal works primarily with owner-managed businesses and individuals. He has an extensive background in tax, reorganization and HST. When not at the office or with his family Hal can usually be found on the golf course.

Ron Sauntry

C.P.A, C.A., partner

Ron graduated from UNB in 1981 with a BBA degree and obtained his CA designation (CPA) in 1984. He joined Shannon & Buffett LLP in 2003 after almost 23 years with KPMG and its predecessor firms, giving him in excess of 38 combined years of professional experience. He has been a partner with Shannon & Buffett since January 2004. 

Ron’s primary focus is providing audit, accounting, tax and business advisory needs to his varied client base of business: owner-managed business, not-for-profit organizations and individuals. His experience includes almost every type of business or non-profit organization you would find in the Greater Fredericton Area.

Ron’s business advisory work includes assistance with buying/selling business, financial projections and business plans, re-financings, banker relationships, assistance with valuations, recruitment of accounting staff, advice with respect to corporate structure and many other services.

Ron is originally from the Miramichi but has called Fredericton home for over 40 years. He and his wife have two adult children.

Since he began his professional career in 1981, Ron has been involved as a volunteer in many community organizations, including recently, a ten year stint with the Fredericton YMCA as a volunteer fitness instructor.

Garry Armstrong

C.P.A, C.A., partner

Garry graduated from UNB in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree and obtained his CA designation in 1984.
Garry has over 38 years of experience in the public accounting field. He has been a partner with Shannon & Buffett LLP since 1996 and has extensive auditing, accounting and tax experience with owner-managed businesses, charities, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, estates, trusts and individuals. 

Garry commenced his professional career with the Fredericton accounting firm of Lee & Martin which, through multiple mergers, transitioned to become part of the accounting firm, KPMG. He was promoted to senior manager at KPMG and worked on a full range of client assignments providing audit, accounting and tax services.

Garry continues to be involved in the local community as a volunteer with several organizations.

Claude Leger

C.P.A, C.A., C.G.A, partner

Claude obtained his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation in 1995 and followed with his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 2003.  Claude has been working in public practice since 1990 and has been with Shannon & Buffett since 1999 and has been a partner since 2004. Claude serves a broad client base including small business, non-profit entities, municipalities and others.

Shaun Williams

C.P.A, C.A., Senior manager

Shaun was born in Fredericton, NB and raised in Harvey. He obtained his BBA degree in 2013 from UNB and went on to achieve his CA designation in 2015. Because of his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, Shaun was promoted  to Manager in Senior Manager 2019.

Shaun’s primary area of focus is with owner-managed business and with the not-for-profit sectors. 

Over the years he has been involved in his profession and community by volunteering his skills and time. He has filled the role of treasurer for several local non-profit organizations and is currently on the board of Ultimate NB.

He’s not your average accountant, he has many unique hobbies. Some of these hobbies include running a small cattle farm in Harvey, Ultimate Frisbee, hunting, and fishing. Shaun likes to keep his life in a good balance of professionalism and education mixed with hard work and getting his hands dirty.

Carla White

Carla is a graduate of Atlantic Business College and has been with Shannon & Buffett since 1981. She has over 37 years’ experience providing top-notch accounting, bookkeeping and Sage services to our clients. She has been certified with Sage 50 since 1999 and much of her day is spent providing one-on-one training and ongoing support to businesses of various sizes. She also assists clients and non-clients with new installs of Sage or troubleshooting the many day-to-day issues they run into. 

Carla also provides general bookkeeping, payroll and HST services to many of our clients. Carla is highly valued by our clients and the firm for her outstanding quality of service and dedication.

Carla is originally from Minto and retains many close family and friend connections with the community. She and her husband have one adult child.

Throughout her career she has been active in many non-profit organizations in Minto and in Fredericton.

Sarah Billings

Sarah joined the Shannon & Buffett in 2001 after graduating from CompuCollege. She began her professional career with Shannon & Buffett as an Administrative Assistant. Sarah had an aptitude for numbers and a drive to learn and to advance her career. After seven years on the front desk as our administrative assistant, the Partners promoted her to an accounting technician position. She has excelled in all aspects of this role ever since. Sarah’s modus operandi is driven by client service and hard work combined with technical excellence.

Sarah is presently a staff accountant, basically a Jane of all trades; she assists with audits, completes reviews and compilation engagements, and prepares corporate and personal tax returns, charities return, HST and bookkeeping. Sarah also assists our clients with Quickbooks and SAGE issues.

Outside of the office, Sarah is married and a proud mom to their son. She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

Pam VanHorne

Pam graduated from Atlantic Business College in 1993 in the Computerized Accounting Specialist program. After graduation, she joined Shannon & Buffett as an administrative assistant and in 2000 transitioned to the role of an accounting technician.

As an accounting technician, Pam provides bookkeeping, payroll and HST services to many of our clients, as well, serves as our in-house bookkeeper. She has extensive experience in the bookkeeping field. She also assists in preparing compilation engagements, review engagements and performing auditing procedures for the Partners. She is heavily involved in our personal tax preparation process.

Pam has undertaken numerous personal tax and SAGE courses to assist in serving our clients better.

Pam grew up on her family farm in Bear Island and currently still resides there with her husband and son.
